A child suffered injuries June 8 when he rode a scooter into the path of a passing vehicle in Lawrenceburg.

Reports filed through the Lawrenceburg Police Department indicate the child, accompanied by his father, was riding a scooter along East Gaines Street, near Mimosa Cemetery, at approximately 10:45 a.m.

The child’s view was reportedly obstructed by a brick wall that surrounds the cemetery, and he unexpectedly rode the scooter into the roadway. The child’s father attempted to stop the impending collision, however, the child rode into oncoming traffic and was impacted by the bumper of a vehicle. The driver attempted to avoid striking the child but was unable to do so.

Members of the Lawrence County Emergency Medical Service responded to the scene and rendered aid to the child. The boy reportedly suffered a broken leg. He was transported for additional medical care.
